Rudy Rehabilitation Watch: He's A Family Man
The PR campaign to revamp Rudy's image in in full swing. His past wives and children have been scrubbed right out of his life. I wrote about this. And then I noticed in the nauseating NY Post article, RUNNIN' MATES' JUDI 'N' RUDY AIM FOR '08 , there was a very subtle way that events were presented that would lead a reader to believe that Rudy and Judi were married during key events, such as when he got cancer. Judi recounted the period when her married mayor boyfriend was diagnosed with cancer:

When Rudy had prostate cancer in 2000, I knew he'd come through, maybe because we believed he would," said his wife, a registered nurse.

"We decided to treat his cancer with radioactive seeds, then fairly new, implanted by a surgeon directly into the prostate, all while being watched on a big, plasma-like monitor in the [operating room].

Rudy announced he had cancer on April 17, 2000 and announced he was leaving his wife in a press conference on May 10, 2000, after he had been openly cheating with Judi.

Nor were they married on 9/11, when Rudy was living with a couple of friends after his wife forced him out of Gracie Mansion. Judi recalls 9/11:

She said she always thinks about that brush with death and 9/11, when her husband was "spared only by the grace of God" from the World Trade Center's collapsing south tower.
Like I said, it's subtle. But it's not an accident. (His leaked battle plan identifies his "insurmountable" personal problems as a serious liability).

Greg Sargent at TPM noticed the early stages of the scrubbing of the Rudy bio, and highlights the most egregious issue: his two children from his previous marriage are not mentioned in his official bio.

On Rudy Giuliani's new exploratory committee website you can find a bio of the former Mayor and current frontrunner for the GOP Presidential nomination.

Intriguingly, Rudy's bio makes no mention of the two children he had from his second marriage to Donna Hanover, who similarly goes unmentioned. Both kids would now be teenagers, so mentioning them would of course draw attention to his divorce from their mom. (And needless to say, the bio makes no mention of his first marriage to Regina Peruggi, which was annulled after he discovered she was actually his second cousin.) Yep, Rudy omitted his kids from his life story apparently to improve his prospects in the GOP Primary.

The bio is festooned with two happy pictures of Rudy and Judi; needless to say there are no pictures of his children. It's like they don't even exist.

Quite the family values candidate.
