Gustav means that Republicans may not be able to savage Obama in St. Paul this week, but it also provides McCain an opportunity to underscore his "country first" message.
And it seems that's the way McCain intends to spin it, per his comments just now in Mississippi.
"I pledge that tomorrow night and if necessary throughout our convention, we will act as Americans and not as Republicans because America needs us now," McCain told reporters. "No matter what we are — Republican or Democratic — America needs us to do what all Americans have always done in times of disaster and challenge."
It is ironic, though, it was social conservatives who were praying for rain on Obama's big event. And now it seems as though it's the GOP party that is getting washed away.
