The newly-minted McCain-Palin ticket will rally voters Saturday in Colorado Springs, one of the country's evangelical hubs, but the most prominent local Christian leader won't be present.
James Dobson, head of the Focus on the Family empire, is not slated to appear at the event, according to a McCain aide.
While long wary of McCain, Dobson said last week after the Palin pick that he would now pull the lever for the Republican ticket.
Even without him, thousands are expected tomorrow to get their first look at the duo that suddenly has Republicans energized. Colorado Springs is home to dozens of Christian-oriented groups who are sure to want to get a glimpse of Palin. The area also includes a handful of military installations, including the United States Air Force Academy, with active-duty and retired personnel sympathetic to McCain.
